Lighting is a basic need in every home, work, business, garden… However, when choosing which light bulbs to buy, a dilemma arises. Although we may think that all light bulbs are the same or that it is enough to opt for a high-power bulb for large places and a low-power bulb for small rooms, selecting the correct bulb involves taking into account other aspects that are very important to make a good decision when buying a light bulb.
Elements to take into account when choosing a light bulb
We must base our decision on six main aspects to know which light bulbs to buy:
- Size of the Area to Illuminate
- Roof and Wall Color
- Quantity of bulbs that we are going to use. This is an aspect that is usually given to us by the electrical installation. If we do not have this limitation and we can choose the number of light points we want to place, the ideal is to seek advice from a specialist to avoid shadows or spaces with excessive lighting.
- Aesthetic or environmental effect that we want to achieve in the area
- Relationship between the cost and the quality of the bulbs.
- Ease of Installation
Types of Bulbs
Today there are many options. Incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, LED bulbs, LED lamps, downlight…
Incandescent bulbs are the cheapest option in terms of pressure, but be careful! If we take into account the difference in duration and consumption, in the end, what is cheap ends up being expensive. This is why this type of light bulb has practically disappeared in developed countries.
We also have fluorescent tubes, which offer a better quality of light than incandescent bulbs. In addition, they consume less energy than the latter and have a slightly higher price.
Traditional low-consumption light bulbs have practically disappeared from the market. This is because there are alternatives with lower consumption and infinitely more ecological components.
Lastly, there are LED bulbs in all their forms. Reflectors, downlights, lamps, tubes, screens… This type of lighting has a slightly higher price than its competitors, although the difference is justified. And its advantages more than offset the small difference in the acquisition price.
LED bulbs
LED bulbs stand out for their low consumption, high durability, light quality, as well as wide variety of tones and temperatures, so that they cover any type of need in terms of lighting. They also aesthetically have a sophisticated and modern design, which makes them more attractive than their competitors.
Another aspect in which LED bulbs stand out is the opening angle of the light they emit, since they provide a uniform light on the surface to be illuminated, thus achieving an illumination angle of 120º. In this way, a single LED bulb can illuminate areas where with another type of bulb it would be necessary to use several to achieve the same result.
Today the best option without a doubt are LED bulbs due to all the benefits they offer. Despite its price, which is a little higher than its competitors, the difference in consumption means that the price is amortized over the useful life of the product. Useful life that, at least, doubles that of its rivals, which increases its profitability even more. If we add to this a modern design, better quality of light or greater performance, we understand the reason for the unstoppable rise of LEDs as the predominant lighting source in all areas.
