There are different types of LED, which can vary depending on their characteristics and use.
Common LED
The common LED is the most used, and we find it in most household electrical appliances. We have it on the remote control of the television or sound system, we can also see it on the “Stand By” indicator lights, on the panel of the microwave, oven…
Even on the streets, due to the growing need for energy efficiency, official organizations are betting on this technology in traffic lights and other light signals. Also, in houses, streets, offices, factories, shops…, we can find them at LED bulbs or LED lamps, which have begun to replace conventional lamps and light bulbs. In these types of LEDs we find 3 diodes on the same chip, which use the “RGB” configuration (Red, Green, Blue), which is nothing more than using the primary colors to obtain white light.
SMD LED
The SMD LED is called by its acronym in English “Surface Mounted Diode”. The peculiarity of this technology is that each point of light can be encapsulated, alone or accompanied by other LEDs, in a semi-rigid resin that is then placed on a printed circuit, so that the whole creates a luminaire.
The SMD LED is characterized by its yellowish color, as a result of being covered by a thin layer of phosphor. With this, blue tones are absorbed and the light it emits is clearer and more natural. That is why it produces less fatigue in the human eye and requires less power to achieve optimal luminosity.
This type of lighting is also based on the “RGB” model and, by combining colors primaries (Red, Green, Blue) obtains up to 16 million different shades, reproducing the chromatic arc perfectly.
In addition, it is capable of generating 60 to 80 lumens per watt. It does so unidirectionally or at an angle, which can reach 360 degrees of opening. In addition to this, it has a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 80. This information brings it closer and makes it better simulate the conditions of natural light.
Within this type of LED are the SMD-3528 LED, SMD-5050 LED and the SDM-5630 LED.
COB LED
Finally we have COB LED technology, for its acronym in English “Chip On Board”. This new variety connects different LEDs together, in series or parallel in the same package. The COB LED offers greater lighting performance than its brothers. Therefore, it will provide more light using the same power. Because of this advantage, you do not need to focus the light on one point to illuminate an area well. Provides a beam of light with up to 160º opening. As if that were not enough, the color rendering index (CRI) is above 90%. Its light output is estimated at around 110 lumens per watt (Lm/W).
The COB LED also dissipates heat better, due to its construction and the arrangement of the LEDs. Another advantage that these types of LEDs offer compared to others is that they have a greater capacity to withstand changes in the voltage of the electric current.
